The A10 Algorithm: Indexing vs. Ranking
Amazon's A10 algorithm operates in two phases. First, indexing — does Amazon even recognize your product for a given search term? If the keyword isn't in your title, bullets, description, or backend terms, you're invisible for that query. Second, ranking — among all indexed products, where do you appear? Ranking is driven by sales velocity, conversion rate, click-through rate, and relevance.
Most sellers obsess over ranking but skip the indexing step entirely. I've seen catalogs with 500+ SKUs where 40% of products weren't indexed for their primary keyword because of a backend terms error. Fix indexing first — it's the fastest, cheapest win in Amazon SEO.
Keyword Cannibalization
When you sell 10 sizes of the same glass table top, Amazon can't decide which one to rank for"tempered glass table top." Your own listings compete against each other, diluting sales history across all of them. The fix: differentiate each listing's primary keyword (by size, shape, or use case) in the title, then use the parent ASIN's A+ Content to cross-link variations. One listing becomes the"hero" for each search term cluster.
